Assignment 1 - Final I
So i came up with another true love - 'I Love Nutella'!
The sketch..

and the actual one after photoshop!

W - nuts and hazelnuts
E - nutella chocolate cake
N - bread spread with nutella
D - mini nutella spread and nutella fork
Y - boy hugging nutella and thinking of it with hearts thought bubble
hope this is fine..
i'm so sick of racking my brains over what else is there to love or hate.
-
My tutor, Siti, suggested that I tone down on the background colour as it was too chocolatey everywhere and distracting from my name. Same goes for my uber wide fat nutella. Brilliantly added a tray to hold my letters and altered the background gradient!

Assignment 1 - Drafts II
The earphones forming the letters of my name from 'I love music';

and here is the photoshopped draft:

Comments were that the white background was too bland and only the words 'music' was colourful. Will edit it.

This is hardly recognisable but its roots were actually from the vague patchwork fill of the letters of my name. I decided the patches were too simplistic so i decided to depict poverty using each of the letters of my name. So here it is, 'I hate poverty';
W - coins falling from the sky and outreached hands
E - plasters (embodying help and first aid)
N - mouldy bread (too poor for proper food)
D - an old pair of patched up boot with shoelaces
Y - a pair of inverted jeans, also old and patched up, to be of more hyperbolic extent with the aid of Photoshop
and here is the photoshopped draft:

My tutorial mates thought this was 'fashionable' (?) and was not effective in expressing the essence of poverty. I hate it too! Going to change it to something else. Poverty is too vague and tough to work with.
Assignment 1 - Drafts I
Below are the few drafts i have come up with for "i love";
i have decided on "i love music", because my ipod has become my survival tool and companion, that compact byte-ful of my daily dosage of music of different genres that i love

This is my favourite, because it does not make me cringe as much as the others (albeit much room for editing and improvement later on), and thus the selected one i shall be expanding on. It is actually earphones forming the letters of my name.

I wanted to make them resemble music notes in a music score, complete with tables and lines, but i assumed i would have defied the requirements and be penalised for merely decorating my name so i eliminated the music score idea but it now it looks really bare and wrong!

These are really embarassing. The first is supposed to be an inverted 'W' which becomes a 'M' and this 'M' then makes up widely recognised MTV (Music TV) logo. The subscript 'TV' is replaced by 'Toh', which is my surname. I planned to make it really colorful with Photoshop, like the variety of bright zesty MTV logos that capture your attention instantaneously, but my friend commented that she could hardly decipher it at all.
The fourth sketch is basically my name with the fill of anything to do with music. There are parts of piano keys and music notes. This is too plain so ... scratch!
-
Now on to the other theme of 'I hate';
I've decided to go with 'I hate poverty'. I have to admit it originated from personal financial woes but expanded from my individualistic overly-magnified issue to more heavyweight worldly point of view.

The first one is my name with the fill of patches from patched-up quilts or clothings that are common to the poor after wearing out their clothes from a hard day of toil. I plan to use Photoshop to make it really dirty and rugged. This is my most constructive thus far (yes, I did not go very far) so I have selected this to expand on later.
The latter is my name forming the S of the dollar sign and the stroke that goes through it completes the '$', and simultaneously indicates that there is NO MONEY. Way too simplistic.

The third sketch is a repetition of my name forming a house, indicating overcrowding in a confined parameters called home to the poor. My friend thought it was really narcisstic.
The fourth and also my final ditch is just my name written for the ants. It encompasses poverty in all senses - status, rights, health (malnutrition and hence physically tiny frame).

Had presentation to the entire class which I obviously was not well-prepared for, not to mention bad throat which I whispered in to a class full of craned necks and strained ears. Oh woe.
I must improve on my selected designs! Pronto!
